My Story

Certified Alpha Childbirth Educator

2016

My name is Melanie Griffey.  I am a Certified Doula, Certified Aromatherapist, Placenta Encapsulator, Alpha Childbirth Educator, mom of 3 and Grammy.  

 

All of my life I have wanted to teach. When I was a little girl, it gave me great joy to help teach my little sister to read and do math.  I used to love to create tests and grade them.  

 

As I got older, I pursued a degree in Education, but as sometimes happens, life got in the way. I had kids and used my love for teaching to teach them.  I taught Sunday School, taught praise and worship to the kids who lead praise in Children's Church, taught Vacation Bible School, etc.  

 

My kids are much older now, and I have filled the teaching void by substitute teaching in Hamilton County Schools.   

 

Several years ago, I was introduced to Essential Oils.  They changed our lives and the way I look at health care. I learned about oils and was reminded that God really did give us what we need to live healthy, happy lives. I became a Certified Aromatherapist and started teaching introductory classes for essential oils.  

 

Soon thereafter, my daughter and son-in-law found out they were pregnant! I wanted to find out as much as I could about natural remedies for morning sickness, swollen legs and ankles, tearing prevention, etc.  That is how I became involved in the birthing community. I studied, attended births and became a Certified Doula.  

 

The more immersed I became in the birthing world, the more I loved it. I soon began doing Placenta Encapsulations because so many moms requested it and so that I can be involved in even more aspects of the birth process.  

 

In the midst of all of this, I found that there were no local childbirth classes that were Christ centered.  There are many birthing classes available, but they seem to range from clinical to mystic.  None of them were grounded in the belief that God created us and created the way we bring life into the world.  

 

I found Alpha Childbirth and was instantly filled with the knowledge that this is something else I am supposed to teach.  I became certified and am now a childbirth educator, too.

As you can tell, my business has evolved over the past several years while keeping my passion in the forefront.  I envisioned a single entity where pregnant moms, (or those wanting to prepare for pregnancy) can get all of those needs met.

My passion for education and for families has led me here.  I look forward to joining each of you on your excursion into parenting a new life.
